Water - Spirit of the Unknown

The Water Archetype

Water - the element of the Unknown

The Water archetype is led by the Spirit of the Unknown. Like Fire, it is a chaotic element. But just as Water swallows up light the deeper you go, so too is the Water Archetype related to that of the Darkness Archetype. Both have a strong desire to understand the understandable.

There seem to be two types of people who fall within this archetype – one is a scientist, and the other is a mystic. One seeks for the knowledge of the physical world, and the other seeks for knowledge of the mysteries of the universe.

Scientists are not so different from the ancient mystic, both seek the truth that must be sought out. Mystics tap into their desire to create universes. But while both may be student of ideas, only one seems to be thrilled by the unknowns of the world.

When we think of water, we often think of depth. Those that fall within this archetype can be a bridge into the spiritual world. A master of technology. We live in a world of water. Of technology and depth.

As you explore the depths of this archetype, be sure to find sacred space in the things you create or research. In your woodshop, in your office where you do research. In your garage where you work on a car, or any place where you might explore the boundaries of the universe.

Those who fall within this archetype are the keepers of all knowledge. They are the ones that collect history and continue the story of our species from generation to generation. Mentors and students forever. Guides.

Think of how water is needed for things in our world to grow. It was where creation in our world sprung up from. It was the ingredient needed to create life from its basest level. It’s regenerative.

Water fills the container it is placed in. If you do not have a space for yourself, you will fill into the world, stretched thin and without any depth. But if you create your own space where you can think and explore ideas, you can experience the depths of your soul.

Water takes many forms, and thus this is the archetype of transformation. Do not fear how you change with the exploration of ideas. Embrace it. You try and latch onto reason, data, knowledge. But you must also explore the unknown, the heart, the unexplainable. This balance will allow you to feel at balance with the world, but return to your home where you can be safe again.
